Celebrex is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee (ankle sprain, ankle/headache).

Celebrex is contraindicated in the following cases of hypersensitivity to celecoxib or to any of the other NSAIDs listed below:
Since the development of pregnancy in patients taking Celebrex, it is possible to pass the drug through the placenta and into the breast and to cause an adverse effect. Celebrex is excreted in breast milk. There are no adequate reports of adverse effects from the use of Celebrex in lactating mothers.
The drug may be used during pregnancy. There have been reports of low birth weight and possible effects on fetal development. The FDA does not recommend use during pregnancy. Evidence of fetal toxicity has not been determined.
The recommended dose is 200 mg, taken orally. It may be increased to 200 mg or decreased to 200 mg by taking a multivitamin supplement containing iron, vitamin B12, and zinc. The supplement is usually taken about 1 hour before breakfast.
The oral route of administration should be used with caution in patients with a known hypersensitivity to celecoxib or any of the other ingredients of the capsules. The capsules should be opened and the empty space cleaned thoroughly with water. Dissolve a glass of water in a sealed container and allow it to dissolve. Place a thin layer of capsule shell on the affected side of the thigh and gently insert the lower abdomen toward the stomach. Do not move the shell as it may absorb the drug. Continue to insert the shell until the capsule has released its contents. The capsule may be removed from the stomach, washed with water, and placed in a glass of water. Place a layer of shell on the other side of the thigh and gently insert the lower abdomen toward the stomach.
